Upgrading and increasing the output of ring rolling machines

At the end of summer 2008, the ring rolling factory underwent extensive upgrades. The complex elec-tronic control and the ring rolling software were completely replaced, a new control panel installed, and numerous mechanical components refitted. By modifying drives and gearboxes, the rolling forces and rolling torques could be increased by up to 25%.

New compressed-air supply at Imbach

Compressed air is an important form of energy at our company. However, investigations indicated that our compressors used too much electrical energy as a result of idle times. As these reciprocating machines had been in use for some decades and spare parts were proving increasingly difficult to obtain, their replacement became a matter of urgency.

New large-scale turning lathe, investment in the future

With the acquisition of the Ravensburg P20/III turning lathe, we have been able to replace 2 older turning lathes, which have recently become outdated. At the same time, the parts to be processed have become bigger and heavier, forcing us to find new solutions. We are convinced that with this machine we have made a sound investment in the future.

New EDP Technologies

As of 01.01.05, our legendary brown time cards have finally been assigned to the past. A modern program package from Calitime has muted the familiar stamping noise. Thanks to user-friendly EDP software, the complex manual procedures for calculating work hours and overtime and planning shifts and holidays are now also thankfully a thing of the past.

Further extension to complete processing

The Böhringer DUS560 universal lathe, with Sinumerik CNC control, is used to manufacture rings, bushings and waveform parts in the lower and mid diameter ranges. The maximum turning diameter is 570 mm above the bed or 365 mm above the carriage, with a maximum turning length of 2000 mm.

New rotary furnace

In order to improve the overall performance of the large-scale drop-forge hammer, a new rotary furnace was commissioned in January 2002 with a bed diameter of 3.7 m. The nominal capacity of the furnace is equal to 1.8 to/h. It is intended to process parts weighing between 20 and 120 kg with a maximum length of 1200 mm.

At the beginning of July last year, we welcomed a host of media representatives from throughout Switzerland to our headquarters in Nebikon. President Markus Tavernier explained that the choice of Imbach as the location for the annual media press conference of the Swiss Aluminum Association was based on the particularly innovative characteristics and capabilities of our company.

Management Outing

It was a rather unusual schedule that awaited us on this year’s management outing. In deepest Emmental, the first task was to milk a cow. There is no doubt that we are far more used to holding a hammer than the teats of an Emmental cow. Despite this, the little bit of milk we did manage to obtain was made into a small Emmental cheese that will be ready for tasting in late autumn.

Our new aluminium furnace
